(Enfield-WTNH)_A woman’s words of encouragement from her home in Enfield helped a soldier on the front lines in Iraq and now their worlds, are not just connected by those very words. Janet Centore has written hundreds of soldiers in the Middle East but she has never met one, until now. Sgt. Darrin Domko and his wife Keri promised to visit Centore when he returned from Baghdad. Centore decorated her house for this special moment. She even placed a flag, given to her by Domko next to her father’s.
Centore, a part time auto sales clerk, spends hours e-mailing Domko and other soldiers in Iraq. In return, she receives letters and now she can match some of those letters with a face.
“I just can’t believe you’re here. it’s the only thing I ever wanted, so thanks.
Centore has been a nervous wreck waiting for this meeting and Sgt. Domko says he can relate.
“You can’t see it under this loose shirt, but I’m shaking too,” said Sgt. Domko.
Nervousness is rare for Sgt. Domko because he’s been through this sort of thing before. He has his own website where he posts pictures of 225 pen pals who support him overseas. He wants to visit them all one day, and say thank you in person.
“When I’m out on the streets of Baghdad I’m not afraid as I could be because I know that I’ve got people like her rooting for me,” said Sgt. Domko. “It gives me that little extra courage it gives me that little extra strength.”
The soldier’s visit has given Centore, a mother of three, the inspiration to support more servicemen and women.
“I’d like to meet the injured ones,” said Centore.
For now though, she cherishes this pen pal.
“It’s priceless I’d rather have this than winning the lottery,” said Centore.
As far as she’s concerned, she’s already hit the jackpot.

“Mary Ann Janicki and her husband Bruno own and operate their own little Motel in the mountains. Its a nice little place called the Colonial Fort Inn. They live in Gorham, New Hampshire.
My new tatoo is awesome. I found an artist right here in Gorham. The state motto that is on their license plates of their cars says, “Live Free or Die”. I thought that was so cool that I had it put on my arm with the new tatoo. The tatoo is of my Combat Action Badge that I had earned while in Iraq in 2003.”
